DAYS 1 - 6
From South Africa's vibrant commercial capital, Johannesburg travel to southern Africa's famous Kruger National Park on the hunt for some of the diverse wildlife Africa has to offer - lion, elephant, buffalo, rhino and leopard plus an immense variety (almost 500 species) of birdlife in the park. Continuing north, cross into Botswana, along the edges of the Makgadigadi Pans to Chobe National Park, and enjoy an afternoon on the famous fish eagle game-viewing cruise on the Chobe River. If you’re lucky you may see hippo wallowing in the shallows and an elephant’s bath time.

DAYS 7 - 13
This morning we cross on the Kazangula ferry to enter Zambia and the town of Livingstone, from where you can enjoy a cruise on the quiet upper stretches of the Zambezi, with a sundowner in hand and view the Victoria Falls as they tumble into the Batoka Gorge. There’s a number of exciting activities based around the river and the falls - get wet and wild on a white water rafting trip, take a scenic flight over the ‘smoke that thunders’, or ride an elephant through the African bush. We also take an excursion to see the falls themselves as well as taking a well earned breather to visit a local village and capture a glimpse of the local culture. From the falls, continue the journey through Zambia passing through Lusakaen route to Malawi- the 'warm heart' of Africa. Enjoy either a nature walk or a spot of canoeing in the picturesque highland region of Luwawa before descending into the Great Rift Valley to the third largest lake in Africa- Lake Malawi. Camp on the golden sandy beaches for a few days of relaxation, or take a guided village walk or one of the various activities on offer such as scuba diving, snorkelling, sailing, or horse riding.

DAYS 14 - 20
Further north up the lakeshore, camp at the base of the Livingstonia Plateau, where there is the opportunity to take a day’s walk up to the Livingstonia Mission if you’re reasonably fit, or alternatively relax on the beach or visit a local village. From Malawi, cross the border into Tanzania, home of the red-robed Masai, and drive through Mikumi National Park where you may spot forest elephant, before reaching the balmy port city of Dar es Salaam. Dar is Tanzania's hub of commerce and industry, and is also the place to catch a ferry to the Indian Ocean island of Zanzibar. Evocative and exotic, with palm fringed beaches, romantic winding cobbled alleys, lush tropical forest, and seafood to die for, enjoy three days exploring the Spice Island’s bazaars, palaces, courtyards and bask in the sparkling blue sea and hot sun on the northern beaches.

DAYS 21 - 29
Back on the African mainland travel inland heading towards the grassy plains of East Africa. In clear weather, you might spot the magnificent snow-capped Mt Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest peak (5895m) as we drive towards Arusha, Tanzania's safari capital. From the Meserani Snake Park get wrapped up in a snake or two and take a guided walk out to the local Masai village and learn a little more about the culture of these proud people. Transferring to 4x4 vehicles, depart for a two night three day game viewing excursion to the Ngorongoro Crater, Serengeti National Park and Olduvai Gorge. At 326 sq km, Ngorongoro is Africa's largest intact caldera, a World Heritage Site, and literally stuffed with game, while the wide open plains and flat empty horizons of the Serengeti epitomises many peoples image of Africa. Back in Arusha, jump back on the overland truck for a final days drive across the border into Kenya to finish in Nairobi.
