DAYS 1 - 7
From Nairobi, cross the Great Rift Valley, the enormous cleft in the earth's surface that may be one of the places where early man developed and is regarded as the 'cradle of humankind'. The views over the top of the valley on to the Masai heartland are superb, and at the bottom of the valley floor, camp in the Lake Nakuru National Park where rewarding game drives get close to the abundant rhino, swathes of pink flamingos on the edge of Lake Nakuru, and perhaps a glimpse of a leopard in the yellow acacia trees. From Nakuru we travel north through the Kenyan highlands via Eldoret and enter the green and fertile country of Uganda. From a base near the source of the Nile at Jinja there is the opportunity to explore Africa’s longest and most famous river by wet and wild white water rafting, walking or quad biking through the picturesque villages on the riverbanks. In Uganda’s capital Kampala, take an excursion to Ngamba Island on Lake Victoriato visit a chimpanzee sanctuary and cross over by boat, or even swim over the equator.

DAYS 8 - 14
In southwestern Uganda, trek the gorillas in either Bwindi Impenetrable Forest or Mgahinga National Park, home to roughly half of the world's remaining 700 Mountain Gorillas. After a trek in small groups led by experienced local guides, watch mesmerised for about an hour the daily going ons of a family of gorillas in their natural home of lofty trees and dense mist-filled forest. Returning to Kampala, cross from Ugandaback into Kenyaand travel down the Rift Valley, back to the bright lights and bustle of Nairobi. Here you can choose to celebrate your audience with the gentle apes on a night on the town in one of Nairobi’s top class restaurants.

DAYS 15 - 22
From Nairobi spend a couple of nights in the Masai Mara Game Reserve, easily Kenya’s most recognised wildlife park. The Mara is celebrated for the breath-taking spectacle of the annual migration of grazing animals which takes place between July and September, a scene that has replayed for centuries across these plains. From the Mara head to the Rift Valley lake of Naivasha, known as the ‘sunshine lake’ and a real treat here is a brilliant sunset over the hippo-infested waters. Crossing the border into Tanzania, reach the busy safari capital of Arusha to explore the bustling local markets and perhaps have a photograph taken with an African snake at the Meserani Snake Park. Here, swap on to a more suitable 4x4 vehicles and drive west to Oldavai Gorge to discover the origin of man before travelling onwards to Tanzania’s premier national park, the mighty Serengeti National Park, and a night in a tent here in an open campsite amongst the invisible eyes of the animals is an exhilarating experience. After game driving in the Serengeti, drive down the steep walls of the Ngorongoro Crater at dawn, a world heritage site for a concentration of wildlife that is second to none.

DAYS 23 - 28
After returning briefly to Arusha, continue eastwards and reach Tanzania's sprawling coastal city, Dar es Salaam, home to some frenzied local markets and port for ferries to the exotic spice islandof Zanzibar. Spend three nights on an island that immediately conjures up images of idyllic, sandy palm fringed beaches, romantic winding cobbled alleys and lush tropical forest. Historically, Zanzibar was once the most important towns on the East African coast, a centre for trade in spices, slaves and a base for 19th century explorers. Exploring the narrow alleys on foot is the best way to see Stone Town and discover the delights of the bazaars, quaint shops, mosques, palaces, courtyards and squares. After your grand tour of the highlights of East Africa, a couple of days relaxing on the stunning swathes of white sand beaches and frolicking in the crystal clear waters of the Indian Ocean will be most welcome. The tour ends back in Dar on the mainland, leaving you with unforgettable memories and new found friends.
